Fons Trompenaars is the founder and managing director of THT. Fons studied
Economics at the Free University of Amsterdam and later earned a Ph.D. from
Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, with a dissertation on differences
in conceptions of organizational structure in various cultures. He experienced
cultural differences firsthand at home, where he grew up speaking both French
and Dutch, and then later at work, with Shell in nine countries.
Fons` work in Shell focused on job classification and management development.
In 1989 Fons founded the Centre for International Business Studies (CIBS),
an international management consulting and training organization. In 1998,
CIBS was re-named THT Consulting. Fons has worked for numerous clients including
Shell, BP, ICI, Philips, Heineken, TRW, Mars, Motorola, General Motors, Nike,
Cable and Wireless, CSM and Merrill Lynch.
Fons Trompenaars has authored numerous books and publications including Riding
the Waves of Culture which sold over 120,000 copies and was translated into
French, German, Dutch, Korean, Danish, Turkish, Chinese, Hungarian and Portuguese.
He is co-author of The Seven Cultures of Capitalism , Building Cross-Cultural
Competence and 21 Leaders for the 21st Century with Charles Hampden-Turner.
More recently, Fons has published the Across Cultures series of books: Business

Charles Hampden-Turner
Charles Hampden-Turner is Professor of Business at the University of Cambridge
Judge Institute of Management Studies. He received his masters and doctorate
degrees from the Harvard Business School and was the recipient of the Douglas
McGregor Memorial Award, as well as the Columbia University Prize for the
Study of the Corporation.
He won Guggenheim, Rockefeller and Ford Foundation Fellowships and has worked
as a consultant for Shell, BP, Digital Equipment, The Economic Council of
Canada, the BBC, Philips, Nissan, DSM, Dow Chemical, AMD, Sematech and Apple
computers among others.
Charles Hampden-Turner joined THT in 1990. He has conducted research throughout
Europe and North America and is the author of nine books, including: Maps
of the Mind, translated into French, German and Dutch, Charting the Corporate
Mind, and Corporate Culture: Vicious and Virtuous Circles. He has worked with
